SHIP OR SHAME

THE RULES

The whole game in plain English. There is not much to it, which is the point.

How it works

You name something you are going to ship and a deadline. You pay for the sentence. From that moment your challenge has a public page with a running clock on it.

Ship before the clock runs out and mark yourself shipped, and you escape. Miss it, and your page becomes a public record that you did not.

Sentences

  • 24 hours$2
  • 3 days$4
  • 7 days$5
  • 30 days$10

Longer sentences cost more. That is not a mistake: you are paying for time, and the short ones are the interesting ones.

Bail

If the clock is running out you can post bail for $20, which buys seven more days. You keep the same page, the same link and the same audience — that is what you are actually paying for, because starting again is cheaper.

You can post bail at most 3 times on one challenge. After that the deadline is the deadline.

Once a challenge has been shamed, bail cannot rescue it. Start a new one.

Nobody checks whether you shipped

When you mark yourself shipped you have to give a public link, and it goes on your page and on the card people see when you share it. We do not verify it. We do not visit it.

The link is right there for anyone who cares to look, which is a stronger check than anything we could automate — and lying to escape a $2 bet you set yourself is a remarkable way to spend an afternoon.

What goes public

Your display name, your X handle if you give one, your project name, your promise, your deadline, whether you shipped, and any bail you paid. Your email address never appears publicly.

X handles are whatever people typed, and are marked unverified unless the owner has confirmed it. If someone has used your handle, tell us and we will take it down.

Being taken down

We will hide anything abusive, anything impersonating someone, and anything we would be embarrassed to have on the site. That is a judgement call and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
